About Me
Meet Me. I am the Conley behind it all. =)
So, you're probably wondering what all this is about the ACMServer. It all started one cold bleak winter day. We were in lab wondering why UCR had so much bandwith but nothing to *really* use it. So, instead of wasting time with projects that tap the source only momentarily, with the support of the ACM membership, ACMServer was born! Now, we occasionally try saturating our fiber to CalRen with the ACMServer mirrors. On campus, we now have 10GB. What will we ever do with that? I'm working on it.
I'm an administrator for the above mentioned ACM Server. I have tons of fun doing kernel upgrades and playing with apache, but lately I have more fun managing projects and planning the future. Yes, I finally caved to the pressure and ran spellcheck on the ACM Server site. I'm also the guy that wrote the TOS you all have to sign. But, if you stop a second and think about it, we all get to have a whole lot more fun if the ACM Server doesn't get taken down by RIAA and the school administration due to poor management and a bad apple! So, let's run a tight ship and we could have lifetime ACM server access! Just pay your dues to the ACM org as a student or alumni member each year...
My hobbies are reading, everything, music, everything and sometimes playing it on piano, and, photography. Hiking in Washington, bicycling, walking along the beach at Coronado is awesome too. Don't forget roller coasters! I'm a connoisseur; Six Flags Magic Mountain! You can take a look at the cool gallery of photos I have here: Gallery.
My research interests lie in wide but interconnected fields of datamining, systems, and user interfaces. Recently, I've enjoyed working out the intracacies of project management as an Intern at Microsoft Corporation. As Samuel Clemens said, "Never let your schooling get in the way of your education." While you spend those days cooped up in the lab wishing you were enjoying a long walk on the beach under a lightly painted pastel blue sky, remember the reason... You're going to make the "big bucks"? You'll probably be more successful if there's another reason driving you. Take my advice, stop and smell the roses, or the cookies, but just stop. What is a destination that has no scenic route? Seriously, I do spend a lot of my time in lab or working on projects. If you aren't, you definitely should be!
I check my email quite a few times each day. Email is probably the best way to contact me. I even recommend you email me in an urgent situation. If you don't, I can't be responsible for a thing.
